About UK Metal Prices
UK Metal Prices publishes daily scrap metal prices for the UK market, refreshed every morning from scrap yards across the country. We track 44 scrap grades of copper, aluminium, steel, iron, brass, lead, stainless steel, zinc and nickel.
Who Built This
UK Metal Prices was created by Taro Schenker, a metals market researcher with over 15 years of experience investing in precious and base metals. Taro also founded London Gold Exchange, one of the UK's most comprehensive precious metals price and dealer resources, with a verified database of 242+ UK gold dealers.
How Our Prices Work
Our price data comes from three layers:
- LME Spot Prices ... we fetch daily London Metal Exchange commodity prices for copper, aluminium, zinc, lead, and nickel. These are the global benchmark prices that UK scrap yards use as a reference.
- UK Scrap Yard Prices ... we collect published buy prices from UK scrap yards daily, in London and the South East, the Midlands, the North West, Yorkshire and the North East, and South West England and Wales. We have no Scottish source yet. These prices show what yards actually pay to the public.
- Calculated Estimates ... where direct yard data isn't available for a grade, we estimate using the relationship between LME spot prices and industry-standard discount factors per grade.
Our Data Sources
As of September 2026 we collect prices from 7 UK scrap yards in 5 regions. Our scraper runs daily and stores every price point, so the price history grows every day. We never republish a single yard's exact price list: a price shown as an average comes from at least two yards, and where fewer publish a grade we show an estimate from the market price instead, labelled as an estimate.
API for Developers
