UK Metal Prices ("we", "us", "our") operates the website ukmetalprices.co.uk. This privacy policy explains how we collect, use, and protect information when you visit our site.

What We Collect

Information you provide: If you contact us by email, we store your email address and message to respond to your enquiry.

Automatically collected: When you visit our site, we may collect standard web analytics data including your IP address, browser type, pages visited, and referring URL. This data is collected via Vercel Analytics and is used to understand how people use the site.

Calculator usage: When you use our scrap metal calculator without submitting an email, we do not store your inputs (metal, grade, weight). Calculator requests are processed in real time and not logged against any user profile.

Email signup for price alerts: If you submit your email via the calculator to receive price alerts, we store: your email address, optional postcode, the calculation context at the time of signup (metal, grade, weight, estimate), your consent timestamp, and a one-way hash of your IP address used to prevent abuse. We send a confirmation email and you are only added to our alert list after you click the confirmation link (double opt-in).

Sell requests: If you ask us to put you in touch with a scrap metal dealer (via the “sell scrap metal” form or the calculator), we store: your name, email address, phone number and postcode; what you want to sell (metal, grade, approximate weight, description, timeframe, whether you need collection, and whether you are a household, trade or business seller); our indicative estimate; your consent timestamp; and a one-way hash of your IP address used to prevent abuse. We use this to acknowledge your request and to share your name, contact details and enquiry with up to three licensed scrap metal dealers or buyers we work with near your postcode, who may contact you directly.

Lawful Basis & Marketing Consent

We rely on your explicit consent (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(a) and PECR Regulation 22) as the lawful basis for sending you price alert emails. You provide consent by ticking the box on the calculator form and clicking the confirmation link in the email we send you.

You can withdraw consent at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link in any alert email. Withdrawal does not affect the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal.

For sell requests we rely on your consent (given by ticking the contact box) to contact you and to share your details with those dealers, and on legitimate interests (fraud and abuse prevention) for the hashed IP address. You can withdraw consent by replying to any email about your request or contacting us, and we will close the request and ask the dealer to do the same.

Data Retention

We keep your email signup record for as long as you remain subscribed. If you unsubscribe, we retain a suppression record (email + unsubscribe timestamp) indefinitely so we don’t accidentally re-add you. Unconfirmed signups (where you never clicked the confirmation link) are deleted after 30 days. Calculation-context fields are deleted after 2 years. We record the exact consent wording you agreed to alongside your request. Sell requests are kept for 12 months after the request is closed, then deleted.

Yard Partner Preferences

If you complete our yard partner form, we store your yard’s buying preferences, postcode, collection area, contact preference and any notes you provide. Taro uses these to assess suitable seller introductions and manage the relationship with your yard. These responses are not published. You can update them through your personal link or ask for correction or removal at contact@ukmetalprices.co.uk. We do not load analytics or session recording on the partner form.

Cookies

We use essential cookies required for the website to function. We may also use analytics cookies (e.g., Vercel Analytics) to understand site usage. These cookies do not contain personal information. You can disable cookies in your browser settings.

Scrap Yard Data

We display information about UK scrap yards, including business names, addresses, phone numbers, and opening hours sourced from Google Places and publicly available websites. This information relates to businesses, not individuals. If you are a scrap yard operator and wish to update or remove your listing, please contact us at contact@ukmetalprices.co.uk.

Your Rights (UK GDPR)

Under UK data protection law, you have the right to:

• Request correction of inaccurate data
• Request deletion of your data
• Object to processing of your data

Third Parties

We do not sell your personal data to third parties. If you submit a sell request, we share your name, contact details and enquiry with up to three licensed scrap metal dealers or buyers we work with so they can quote for your metal; each dealer is an independent data controller for how they then handle your data. We share data with the following processors as necessary to operate the site:

• Vercel — hosting and edge functions
• Supabase — database (EU region)
• Resend — transactional email delivery for confirmation and price alert emails
• Google Analytics 4 — aggregated, anonymised site analytics
• Microsoft Clarity — anonymised session replay for UX improvement
