UK Metal Prices ("we", "us", "our") operates the website ukmetalprices.co.uk. This privacy policy explains how we collect, use, and protect information when you visit our site.

What We Collect

Information you provide: If you contact us by email, we store your email address and message to respond to your enquiry.

Automatically collected: When you visit our site, we may collect standard web analytics data including your IP address, browser type, pages visited, and referring URL. This data is collected via Vercel Analytics and is used to understand how people use the site.

Calculator usage: When you use our scrap metal calculator without submitting an email, we do not store your inputs (metal, grade, weight). Calculator requests are processed in real time and not logged against any user profile.

Email signup for price alerts: If you submit your email via the calculator to receive price alerts, we store: your email address, optional postcode, the calculation context at the time of signup (metal, grade, weight, estimate), your consent timestamp, and a one-way hash of your IP address used to prevent abuse. We send a confirmation email and you are only added to our alert list after you click the confirmation link (double opt-in).

Lawful Basis & Marketing Consent

We rely on your explicit consent (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(a) and PECR Regulation 22) as the lawful basis for sending you price alert emails. You provide consent by ticking the box on the calculator form and clicking the confirmation link in the email we send you.

You can withdraw consent at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link in any alert email. Withdrawal does not affect the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal.

Data Retention

We keep your email signup record for as long as you remain subscribed. If you unsubscribe, we retain a suppression record (email + unsubscribe timestamp) indefinitely so we don’t accidentally re-add you. Unconfirmed signups (where you never clicked the confirmation link) are deleted after 30 days. Calculation-context fields are deleted after 2 years.

Cookies

We use essential cookies required for the website to function. We may also use analytics cookies (e.g., Vercel Analytics) to understand site usage. These cookies do not contain personal information. You can disable cookies in your browser settings.

Scrap Yard Data

We display information about UK scrap yards, including business names, addresses, phone numbers, and opening hours sourced from Google Places and publicly available websites. This information relates to businesses, not individuals. If you are a scrap yard operator and wish to update or remove your listing, please contact us at contact@ukmetalprices.co.uk.
