Scrap Metal Value Calculator
Prices are indicative estimates. Actual prices vary by yard, region, and metal condition. Always confirm with your local scrap yard.
How the Calculator Works
Our scrap metal calculator uses real prices collected daily from scrap yards across the UK. We aggregate prices from multiple sources to give you a realistic estimate of what your scrap is worth.
The estimate shows a range because actual scrap yard prices vary depending on:
- Location ... London and port cities typically pay more than rural areas.
- Volume ... bringing a larger quantity usually means a better price per kg.
- Condition ... clean, well-sorted metal gets a higher grade and better price.
- Market conditions ... prices follow the London Metal Exchange and can move daily.
Metals Covered
- Copper ... bright wire, heavy copper, braziery, cable, tanks
- Aluminium ... extrusion, wheels, cast, cans, old rolled
- Brass ... mixed, rod, gunmetal, radiators
- Lead ... sheet, pipes, batteries
- Steel & Iron ... HMS 1 & 2, light iron, cast iron, plate
- Stainless Steel ... 304, 316, mixed
- Zinc ... clean, die-cast
Tips for Maximising Your Scrap Value
- Separate metals by type. Never mix copper with brass or aluminium.
- Remove attachments. Brass fittings on copper pipe, steel bolts on aluminium.
- Know your grade. The difference between bright copper wire and braziery can be 30%.
- Weigh before you go. Most yards pay by weight, so know what you have.
- Shop around. Prices vary significantly between yards, especially between regions.
