What is 316 Stainless?
316 stainless steel (also called marine grade) contains approximately 16% chromium, 10% nickel, and 2% molybdenum. The molybdenum gives it superior corrosion resistance, especially against chlorides. It is used in marine hardware, chemical processing, and food industry equipment.
Tips for best price
- Test with a magnet. 316 is non-magnetic or very weakly magnetic.
- Keep separate from 304. The molybdenum content in 316 makes it worth more.
- Marine and food processing equipment is the most common source.
