What is Clean Zinc?
Clean zinc is mainly rolled zinc sheet recovered from roofing, cladding, gutters, flashings, and fabrication work. It is a dull blue-grey, non-magnetic metal that develops a protective weathered surface; normal patina does not make it galvanised steel. The load must be free of steel nails, backing, sealant, and die-cast zinc components to qualify as a clean sheet grade.
Tips for best price
- Use a magnet to reject galvanised steel, which has only a thin zinc coating over magnetic steel.
- Remove nails, clips, timber, bitumen, insulation, and thick sealant from roofing sheet.
- Keep zinc die castings and mixed plumbing fittings separate from clean rolled material.
- Fold clean sheet only when safe to do so, and avoid concealing attachments inside bundled material.
