What is Brass Rod/Cutts?
Brass rod and cutts are clean, solid manufacturing offcuts with a relatively consistent copper-zinc alloy. They come from machining, fabrication, plumbing-product manufacture, and stock remnants, and normally require less sorting than a mixed load of taps and fittings. Different machining brasses can contain lead or other alloying elements, so labelled batches and known specifications are more useful to a specialist buyer than an untraceable mixture.
Tips for best price
- Keep clean solids separate from brass swarf, turnings, and oily machining waste.
- Remove steel fixings, plastic, soldered joints, and any attached non-brass material.
- Retain alloy labels or mill certificates for industrial quantities and ask whether the yard buys by analysis.
- Do not mix red gunmetal or bronze with yellow brass rod; they have different compositions and grades.
