Alloy wheels scrap value UK

Kerbed, corroded or simply the wrong size, alloy wheels are one of the cleaner aluminium grades a yard sees. Each wheel is 7-17 kg of cast aluminium alloy, priced per kilo once the tyre is off. The table below prices each common size at today's aluminium-wheel rate.

How yards grade alloy wheels

Alloy wheels are a named grade at most UK yards, above cast aluminium because the alloy is consistent and clean. Yards want the tyre off; many will accept valve stems but deduct for stick-on balancing weights, steel inserts and centre caps. A wheel still on its tyre is either refused or paid as dirty aluminium. Chrome-plated and diamond-cut finishes are fine. Magnesium wheels from a handful of performance cars are a different metal and priced separately, if taken at all.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much are scrap alloy wheels worth in the UK?

Each wheel is priced by weight at the aluminium-wheel rate. A 16-inch wheel weighs 8-10 kg, a 18-inch wheel 11-14 kg. The live table above shows today's value per wheel and per set of four.

Do scrap yards take alloy wheels with tyres on?

Some do but at a much lower rate, and many refuse. Remove the tyres first: a tyre fitter will usually take them off cheaply and dispose of the tyre for you.

How much does an alloy wheel weigh?

Roughly 6-8 kg for a 14-inch wheel, 8-10 kg for 16-inch, 11-14 kg for 18-inch and up to 17 kg for 20-inch. Van and 4x4 wheels can reach 20 kg.

Are alloy wheels worth more than scrap aluminium?

Yes. Wheels are a clean, single-alloy grade so yards pay above the cast aluminium rate. Usable wheels are worth more again sold as parts rather than by weight.
