What is Aluminium Wheels?
The aluminium wheels grade mainly covers cast vehicle wheels with a consistent alloy composition. Yards normally want the tyre removed and may distinguish fully clean wheels from rims carrying valve stems, balancing weights, steel inserts, or decorative parts. Steel rims, magnesium wheels, and multi-piece rims with mixed-metal hardware should not be assumed to qualify for the same grade.
Tips for best price
- Remove the tyre and ask the yard whether it accepts bare rims with valve stems still fitted.
- Take off balancing weights, centre caps, and accessible steel hardware for the cleanest grade.
- Check a suspected rim with a magnet: a strongly magnetic rim is steel, not aluminium.
- Keep cracked or badly damaged wheels for scrap, but check reusable OEM wheels before selling solely by weight.
