What is Aluminium Copper Radiators?
Aluminium copper radiators (alu/cu rads, ISRI grade "Talk") are the radiators found in most cars and some heating systems: thin aluminium cooling fins bonded to copper tubes. Yards price them on the copper content, so they sit well above pure aluminium radiators. They must be clean — free of iron brackets, plastic tanks, and attachments.
Tips for best price
- Cut off plastic end tanks and any steel brackets. "Clean" rads pay a step more.
- Don't confuse these with pure aluminium rads — check for the copper tubes along the core.
- Car air-con condensers are usually all-aluminium and belong in the cheaper grade.
- Drain any coolant first. Wet rads get docked for the liquid weight.
