What is High Grade Cable?
High grade cable is insulated cable with a high copper recovery percentage, typically 50% or more by weight. It includes single-core cable (singles), PVC pyro, and thick high grade PVC wire. Yards price it on the copper they can recover after granulating, so it sits well above household cable but below stripped copper.
Tips for best price
- Singles 6mm and above are the best payers in this grade. Keep them separate from thin wire.
- If you have time and volume, stripping singles upgrades them to bright wire pricing.
- No plugs, sockets, or attachments — pluggy cable drops to low grade.
- Keep pyro separate if your yard lists it on its own. Some pay a different rate.
