What is Household Cable (40%)?

Household cable is the yard grade used for twin-and-earth wiring such as 6242Y and similar PVC-insulated cable removed during domestic electrical work. It is often described as a percentage-recovery cable because the yard is paying for the copper it can recover after granulation. Recovery varies with conductor size and construction, so not every coil belongs in the same fixed percentage grade.
